todays experience included a stop by a small village by which name i cannot recall...i tried to converse with them and i am slowly getting ...slowly i repeat....a little better in swahili. but that is still my biggest personal challenge. anywho... the women went to get water from their nearby bore hole, about 10 min. walk and i was invited....while they chattered to me about my hair, my lack of kanga, etc. the hole is just that, with murky looking . they filed their buckets...i had a smaller container, and back we went. no, i didnt carry mine on my head, you need some fabric that creates a. bit of a nest that provides a bit of support. maybe next time lol. a few of the children were connected to me right away, the youngest one cried...we white people sometimes scare them haha. i suspect they had never seen a mzungu before. speaking of which ...yesterday we stopped in a village and we had some time to sit waiting for someone. seriously, i am a novelty and people would just stop and stare...the children would do a double take. when i would smile, wave or say mambo they would...giggle...run away or just stop to gape. never fails. lol. and i am where there have rarely if ever been white people. at least not often. as opposed to the touristy area i lived in before when we were more common place. for sure, in just a few weeks, i have had some deeper more authentic africa experiences. i am not always comfortable, but never unsafe, just hitting those boundaries. and pushing through.
