Bullycide – suicide attributable to the victim having been bullied, either in person or via social media. Bullycide has also been defined as the killing of the bully by the victim. Several months ago on Wednesday 10th October in the absence of light darkness prevailed. Amanda Todd, a 15 tear old teenager took her own life. A normal girl who’s life became hell due to bullying. This was one of the biggest cases of bullycide to recently hit the headlines all over the world. Not only was it shocking that such a young girl had taken her own life but also in the month prior to Amanda taking her own life she had posted her story to social network site You Tube. The video detailed about been bullied both on and off line. Its the heart wrenching story of what she had to cope with before all became to much. Below is the video which she posted. Amanda’s Story – In her Words Amanda’s story is just one of the bullying related suicide’s, many go unpublished and the victims story is never. Many are brushed under a political carpet diagnosed with other explanations rather then looking at the true causes. A lot of victims struggle to live in today’s world with the affects of the issues that plague their daily lives. Sometimes coping isn’t enough and lives become changed forever as bullycide claims another innocent life. We need more public awareness about bullycide so people can understand the reasons why it happens. Also better counseling and support both in and outside schools for victims so they don’t feel like they are all alone. Families need to talk to their children about these issues so that they don’t appear as taboo subjects, which are only discussed when its too late. By speaking about these issues children realize there is always somewhere they can turn for support if they becomes affected by bullying. No one should ever have to feel that they are alone! The sky may gain a shining star when an innocent life is lost, but families and friends lose a loved one and the world becomes a sadder place with out them.
