tonights prayer for the opening of Foley Christmas season at Heritage Park 6:00pm Eternal God, as you led your people in ages past, you direct our journey into the future. We give you thanks that you came to us in Jesus Christ. In this Advent season we are eager to celebrate his birth even as we eagerly await his coming again that his rule may be complete and your righteousness will reign over all the world. The messiah is proclaimed “Prince of Peace” yet we confess that we are divided people and at odds with one another, and sets us against peace and love. Take from us the mistrust, party spirit, contention, and evil that divides us. May your holy and life-giving Spirit move our hearts, so that the barriers which divide us will crumble, suspicions will disappear, and hatreds will cease. With our divisions healed, give us strength of purpose and concern for others, that we may create a community of justice and peace where your will may be done. Jesus came to tell the Good News to the poor, to tell the captives they are free to tell the blind that they can see again to free those who have been treated unfairly. May we, as Christmas people, live and follow his example to serve our fellow human beings and by our understanding love, give peace and joy. Give us, O God, such love and wonder that with shepherds and magi, we may come to adore the holy child, the promised King; and with our gifts worship him, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
