too much psychology and sociology in my background - standing back and watching the advertising trying to get consumers to shop at 8 p.m. Thursday - was a few years of K-Mart open on Thanksgiving that finally pulled a couple retail outfits along for p.m. Thanksgiving shopping in 2012 - is more an avalanche of retail openings in 2013 - retail is still trying to persuade you that EVERYONE wants this - in 2013 still a minority who would think to shop on Thanksgiving Day - but its being pushed off the cliff - because stores will be open whether there are shoppers or not - people have not absolutely not shop on Thanksgiving for the closed sign to stick - probably too late already - and in a couple years only Christmas will survive as the lone non-shopping day - for shopaholics on Christmas - theres the internet
