#trancefamilyspain -> Pure Bliss Vocals Interview with Estiva: Estiva (Steven Baan), of Reeuwijk, The Netherlands, has been welcomed globally into the Electronic Dance Music industry as one of the leading artists of Tritonals Enhanced Music – “the label that delivers tune, after tune”. With a much loved, personal approach and a loyal fan base, Estiva’s melodic, emotive and upbeat style has lead to consistent support from the industry’s biggest influences, including; Tiësto, Nicky Romero, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Dash Berlin and many more – all whilst having tracks regularly featured on the United States’ pioneering satellite radio station, Sirius XM. Estiva has established himself as an artist with a mature and intricate sound who’s able to consistently deliver eminent and forward-thinking productions. ... Welcome Steven, It’s a great privilege to be speaking with you today. How have you been enjoying the summer season & 2014? Hey hey! It’s been a different summer to me as I was in Australia for two weeks. And it’s winter there… So I guess I’ve been missing out on two weeks of summer, ha! I can’t complain though, I’ve been touring a lot and finished three new vocal tracks already! Over the years you’ve become one of the hottest and most requested artists within the Electronic Dance Music scene. With numerous Top 10 Beatport tracks/remixes. But where did it all begin? What got you into EDM and who were your biggest influences? When I was very little I listened to the music my older brother listened to. I remember I was really into happy hardcore. Later on I discovered ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ by Tiesto and Armin’s ASOT. Around that time it was that I found out about some really basic music software. My brother saw me struggling and got me more advanced software (FL Studio). From there it took off and I kinda rolled into the career I’m in right now. It’s still my number 1 hobby too! Fresh from Enhanced Music is your newest release “Feels Right” with Sarah Russell. The track has summer anthem written all over it. Another huge production from you. Tell us a little something about the track and the recording process? What was it like working with Sarah Russell? I did a remix for a collab she did with Daniel Kandi some years ago. I absolutely love her voice and I’ve always wanted to work with her. About a year ago we started a track together but the final outcome didn’t really satisfy us. We still wanted to make the collab happen and out of nowhere she wrote ‘Feels Right’. I remember getting her demo and I immediately felt inspired. A few weeks later our collab was a fact! It’s been one of the quickest collabs I’ve done. She’s crazy talented and her voice is really unique I feel. Like I said, I wanted this collab to happen and she was excited about it as well. And I think if you want something to happen that much, it will happen! Estiva feat. Sarah Russell - Feels Right: enhan.co/FeelsRight-BP Earlier this year you released another vocal tune “Reach For The Sky” with Justin Oh and Abby Rae. It seems you’re a lover for vocals in a track. Do you feel they add something special towards the track? Vocals add another dimension to a song. They make a track mean so much more with melodies, harmonies and obviously the words. A great vocal can make a song last longer. At the and of the day that’s what people will get hooked on and remember for years and years. People will be able to sing along and create their own interpretations! For anyone unaware, you also host your own podcast “Next Level”. Tell us about the show and what kind of music we’re likely to hear? What’s the signature sound? Diversity is the keyword here. In the 60 minute show I showcase what I like and believe me, I like a wide variety of genres! It still is mostly dance music as I like to create a flowing mix! Also speaking of radio shows, you’re now on rotation to host Enhanced Sessions. Big congrats! Thank you! Yes, I’ve had my fair share of guest appearances and takeovers but I’m now the official host once a month which is fun! Proud moment for me when I got the call from the office! Recently you’ve been touring on the Enhanced Sessions Album Tour. How was the experience? What was your favourite city along the way? It’s been a blast! Before the Enhanced tours started I’ve played a lot of shows traveling on my own so it felt really good to be on the road with someone you enjoy hanging out with. I’d been looking forward to coming back to Australia again for about a year so I was really excited when it finally happened! I remember the Melbourne and Sydney shows were absolute fire! The North American tour consisted of all debut city’s for me (apart from Ottawa) so naturally that had me buzzing too! It’s so nice to see people appreciate the Enhanced brand all over the world! And of course meeting cool new people and seeing great new places is one of the perks of my job that I can never get bored of! You’ve just finished mixing Enhanced Sessions Volume Four with Juventa! What can we expect to hear from your selection of music included on the compilation? Soooooo many exclusive tracks that no one except us and Enhanced have heard! I’ve included three of my own new tracks! Pre Order Enhanced Sessions Volume Four: enhan.co/ESV4-CD What other upcoming events/tours do you have coming up? I’m playing at South West Four Festival in London tomorrow, which is absolutely massive! There’s going to be a new bunch of tourdates announced very soon, including Asia, North America and Europe! Out of all the tracks you have done to date, do you have a personal favourite or one you’re most proud of? I’m always proudest with the latest song I’ve put out. I still learn a lot every day when I’m in the studio and the latest song should always be your best track on the technical side of things. I recently remixed Mat Zo, which was a big moment for me though! Do you have a favourite tune from 2014 so far? Or another producer’s material that without fail appears in your recent sets. I’m in love with Porter Robinson’s ‘Fellow Feeling’ and ‘Fresh Static Snow’ as we speak! Since becoming a DJ/Producer, what’s been your most memorable moment to date? Any events or funny stories you would love to relive? Too many! I remember Skrillex dropping by at my show in Seoul as well as playing 138bpm b2b with Ferry Corsten in Japan! Now that “Feels Right” has been released. What’s next? Any other original tracks or remixes to come from you this year? I’m working on some instrumentals and I have two new vocal tracks coming up (Voices and Let It Go). Beside the usual dance beats I’m working on some Indie pop material inspired by CHVRCHESS and Electric Youth! Music aside, are you passionate about anything else? Any hobbies or favourite past times you would like to share? Cycling! I love my racing bike! I wish I could take part of the Tour de France or another big course like that! I’d finish last though.. Massive thanks for speaking with us today Steven. Once again big congrats with “Feels Right” and all the best for the rest of 2014. We look forward to hearing your future work. Cheers! Thank you and speak soon again! Interview by Danny @PureBlissVocals Links: Estiva feat.
