trinidadexpress/news/PM-Best-results-since-2008-265633491.html This year has recorded the highest number of pupils scoring above 50 per cent in the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) examinations since 2008. According to statistics provided by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday, out of the 18,229 pupils who wrote the exam, 14,360 pupils (78.7 per cent) scored above 50 per cent. The results which included the top three pupils were delivered by Persad-Bissessar and Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh, who visited the three schools yesterday. Persad-Bissessar said 69 schools secured positions in the top 200 places. Grant Memorial secured 16 places, the highest number of pupils in the top 200, while San Fernando TML Primary had the second highest with 14 pupils. Among the top schools were El Dorado Hindu South and Cedar Grove Private School. Persad-Bissessar assured pupils they would receive laptop computers in September. “You will receive your laptop computers. The laptops would be branded with the red, white and black of Trinidad and Tobago, so no one can take it away from you,” she said. Persad-Bissessar thanked principals and teachers for their dedication to the pupils. “These pupils could not have done such a great job without the help of their principals and teachers so we need to say a special thanks to them. And the principals and teachers could not have done so well if they did not have the help and support and commitment of the parents and family members of the children,” she said. She advised pupils to remember the good values taught to them at school. She told pupils at the San Fernando ASJA Primary School, “As you go forward into your new school take with you the values that your learned at this school. As you go forward with those, remember we always say give praise and thanks to God...in this holy month of Ramadan as you are fasting and you remember all the reasons why you are fasting. “I ask you take those values to put Allah, put God in front of you and to seek his guidance and blessings every step of the way.”
