#tristatewx 1/25/2014: Saturday Concerns - Pipe busting cold returns early next week. Well, good morning fellow weather enthusiasts. Its the weekend and some semi-milder air is arriving into the region. :) Some of you experienced a wintry mix earlier this morning as our clipper pulled over our eastern counties. We are left with some clouds and wind - the wind is going to last right on into early next week. The good news is that Sunday will bring temperatures into the 40s during the afternoon hours. Then the bottom falls out and some counties may experience the coldest air of the season. Now THAT is saying something! We have been -5 here at the Weather Observatory twice this winter. Could we go lower? Looks possible. I continue to be concerned about some sort of long duration precipitation event the first week of February. Rain? Maybe. Snow? Maybe. Wintry mix? Possibly. When we look that far out at the data it becomes hard to come up with specifics. A wait and see approach for now. But, I continue to monitor the potential. Something to watch over the coming week. Today - some clouds and sun. Highs will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. A few mid 40s possible. West winds at 15-20 mph and gusty at times. Tonight - Increasing clouds. Breezy at times. Lows will be in the lower to middle 20s. Northwest winds at 5-10 mph increasing to 10-20 mph by morning. Sunday - A mix of sun and clouds. Warmer. Breezy. Highs will be around 46-54 degrees. Warmest over far southern IL and western KY/MO. Southwest winds at 10-30 mph. Gusty. Sunday night - Cloudy and colder. Chance for a few flurries. Lows in the teens. Northwest winds at 10-20 mph. Gusty. Will make it feel colder. Monday - A few snow showers or flurries possible. Otherwise partly sunny and colder. Temperatures falling into the teens. Northwest winds at 15-25 mph with gusts over 35 mph. Monday night - Clearing. Very cold. Pipe busting cold. Overnight lows from -6 to 5 above. Tuesday into Tuesday night - Mostly clear sky conditions. Very cold. Highs in the teens with lows from -6 to 5 above. A chance of some precipitation around Friday/Saturday - iffy on that. A better chance of precipitation (possibly quite a bit of it) the first week of February. Temperatures should moderate a bit as the storm systems near - then very cold air behind. Long way off - lots to monitor as we move forward. Some sort of weather event is likely the first week of February.
