#tristatewx April 4, 2014: It was a dark and stormy night across the region - hmm sounds like a book opening. :) A severe weather event brought quite a few reports of high winds, tornadoes, funnel clouds, and hail in the region. The most intense storms were over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. Some places picked up 5-10 of rain over the last 48 hours. Some amazing totals. Other areas picked up 0.50-2.50 of rainfall. Lot of standing water in fields this morning. A few areas of flooding continue over southern Illinois. The National Weather Service will be out performing a few storm surveys today to see if there was any significant damage in the tornado warned areas (and other). Here are the initial storm reports from overnight - there will likely be a few more added as surveys are completed. Thanks for all of the storm reports. Hopefully everyone was able to stay safe and dry. I know there was quite a bit of flooding in some counties. All things considered I think the system under-performed from its potential. We will see what the storm surveys show. The rainfall over-performed in some areas - especially true over southern Illinois. Colder weather settles in tonight with even some patchy frost possible. The weekend should be dry (both Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday). A system may bring a few showers and thunderstorms (not severe) on Sunday night. Right now I am not tracking any severe weather potential for southern Illinois and western Kentucky. spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/140403_rpts.html
