#tristatewx May 27, 2014: Southern Illinois and western Kentucky can expect afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances right on through Sunday. Those with outdoor plans this weekend should have a plan B. The pattern appears fairly similar each day. Showers and locally heavy thunderstorms will pop up during the heat of the day and die down at night. Some of the storms will produce local flash flooding (1-3 of rainfall in a short amount of time), small hail, wind gusts above 40 mph, and cloud to ground lightning. When thunder roars, go indoors. Ballgames are going to have to deal with thunderstorm activity over the coming days. The chance for severe weather remains very low. Cant ever completely rule out a report or two of 1 size hail or a wind gust that brings down a tree limb or tree. That happened today in some of our counties. But, the overall severe weather risk is minimal. High temperatures will be in the 80s and lows in the 60s.
