(From our Correspondent.) A four-roomed cottage, valued at about £150 and owned by Mr. Ainos Riley, was destroyed by fire one night last week. The building was unoccupied at the time, and was insured for a small amount in the Royal Insurance Co. The origin of the fire is on known. Margaret E. Kidd, 12 years of age, only daughter ot Air ana Mrs. Frank Kidd, of Braemar, Martinsville, passed away on 15th August at Newcastle Hospital, after four weeks illness She was a very popular girl, thoughtful, jolly, and sympathetic. Last year she was a collector for the Hospital Saturday Fund at Newcastle, and also took a list round on Frances Day. The body was brought by train to Moiisset on Friday and interred in Cooranbong cemetery Included in the funeral procession were Public School scholars and former playmates, who sang the hym, * Safe in the Arms of Jesus, at the graveside. Rev. J. McArthur conducted the burial service. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved parents A sad burning fatality occurred here on Friday last, the victim being Rita Sylvester, aged 3 years, daughter of Mr. Charles Sylvester. The father was burning off some corn stalks, and the child making its way to where he was working, became enveloped in flames. Hearing screams Mr. Sylvester rushed to his daughters rescue and tore off the burning clothes and took her to Avondale for first aid treatment. Later the child was conveyed to Newcastle Hospital by motor, where she died. The funeral took place ou Saturday afternoon, Mr. John ONeill reading the burial service in the absence of Rev. Father Herlihy. To Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester we all extend our deepest sympathy.
