trying lots of different things to fight Kingstons nausea/lack of appetite that are not another expensive pill from the vet/not western medicine. looking into natural appetite stimulants that are safe for dogs. especially when those things encourage other sorts of healing. heading to the co-op for slippery elm bark in a bulk powder. im also encouraging natural raw honey. bland foods are suggested like rice, banana baby food, meat/bone broth (salt and spice and herb free). im making a batch of fresh broth right now. yogurt has always been my go-to for upset tummy times. eating grass is a great thing... however there is hardly any grass anywhere in SF and i dont trust the chemical green grass at parks for consumption. i break out sitting on it. im pretty confident its chemically treated and toxic. im going to try a suggested spoonful of canned organic pumpkin as well (not pumpkin pie stuff, just straight up canned pumpkin). i also saw it suggested, just like humans, that peppermint is good for upset tummy/nausea/encourages appetite. i am giving kingston a bath later today and will use a few drops of peppermint oil (i noticed some dry skin developing and hes overdue for a nice calming oatmeal bath). im also going to brew peppermint tea with some honey and see how that goes over. i saw it written a few places in books and on the interwebs that dogs often prefer peppermint tea to water as they are attracted to the smell. awesome. i will try that. be sure it is room temperature. we are a household of 5 million teas (im not a tea drinker. i mean, i drink it, but im not all Go Fish the movie about it.) i am amazed we dont have peppermint tea at the House of Sunshine. everyone else drinks tea here and theres a bazillion kinds of tea. but no peppermint tea. when i lived alone i would always have a couple teas, peppermint was the only constant. anyway, wanted to share these findings.
