university student came out one day in the evening and went for a stroll with a Professor who was considered to be very friendly with the students. While walking, they saw a pair of old shoes and assumed that it belonged to an old man who worked in the neighbouring fields and who was about to finish his daily labour. The student said to the Professor, Lets pull a prank on him. Lets hide his shoes and hide ourselves behind the bushes and see his face when he cannot find them when he comes back for them. My dear friend, said the professor. We should never have fun at the expense of the poor. You are rich and can bring joy to this man. Place some little cash in each shoe and hide to see how he reacts to that. The student put a coin in each of the shoes and both hid behind the nearby bushes. The poor man finished his task and crossed the terrain searching for his shoes. He put on his tattered coat and when he slid his foot in one of the shoe, he felt something and bent down to see what it was. He found the coin. Flabbergasted, he fumbled to himself what could have happened. He watched the coin, looked around and seeing nobody, he put the coin in his pocket. As he put on the other shoe, his suprise was doubled as he found the second coin. He limped on one leg, moved on a raised place, looked beyond the horizon to see if there was anybody but could see no one. His feeling overwhelmed him, he fell on his knees, pronouncing a fervent thankfulness , speaking of his sick wife and his children who would not go to bed that same night without a meal due to the unknown hand of kindness. The old man walked away in the narrow bushy footpath, occasionally stopping, raising his hands and invoking Gods blessings upon the unknown hands that had placed the coins in his shoes. The student and the professor watched solemnly and with pity as the old man disappeared, making gestures of gratitude as he occasionally bent down to remove a thorn from his feet and overgrown bushes clinging on his coat. The student was profoundly amazed with tears in his eyes. Now, said the prof, Arent you now pleased than if you would have played a prank? The student answered, Many of us have been told that the vital things in life that guarantee us happiness and joy are our studies and careers which translate to wealth accumulation for those that are lucky. This in turn has turned our society into a materialistic society. A society which is obsessed with the level of social and economic class that one is in. You have taught me a lesson of my life, blessed is the hand that giveth than the one that receives. That I will find real happiness, joy and peace if only but I show love and kindness to those in dire need of help. The little kind act that I do will trigger memorable events that are to come Dear friends, during this time of the year it is customary to congratulate and wish each other well. This should also be time to take stock of the successes we have achieved during the year, no matter how small we may think they are, and chart a course that will lead us to prosperity. We have already left our 2014 footprints behind and it is now time to focus on our direction for 2015. Not everything is measured in monetary terms. Are you healthy? Were you blessed with a new addition to the family? Did you achieve another milestone in your education? Do you continue to have food, clothing and shelter? Some of these things, you often take for granted are triumphs in their own right and constitute abundance that the Almighty has blessed you with. Do not take these for granted for there are billions on our planet who would give anything to be in your shoes, no matter how tattered you think they are. Who knows what 2015 will bring. Use the last few days of 2014 to search your soul and reflect on how you will rise to the challenges of the new year and ensure that one year from today, not only are you a better person but, that those around you draw inspiration from the positive energy that you exude. I wish you all a festive season of wonderful enjoyment and a 2015 full of personal fulfillment and abundance. God Bless You All.
