** update on Devon Mardesen Carr. Megan Carr and I went and met with went and met with with mom and the team working with her on Wednesday. They tell us that mom is still continuing to make improvements and get stronger. The neurologist said that moms nerves were severly damaged so it is going to take a long time to recover. She said that they are going to do the IVIG treatment again and hope that helps. The neurologist at methodist and Madonna have told us that they are unsure if moms nerves will come back 100% but also said people prove them wrong all the time. The respiratory people also are not sure if mom will be able to get off the ventilator for a very long time but are working to get her to be able to swallow and stuff like that. The very positive news is that devon can finally move her arms a little and can finally feel her legs. Its crazy how excited you get when someone can roll their arms side to side, even if they cant pick them up yet. The down side is she isnt getting strong enough quick enough for the insurance. They had said 9/16 is when they would stop paying and now decided 6/30. The case manager at Madonna appeales and got another week, and will continue to do so. If/when the insurance cancels, mom will need to go to a nursing home. There is one in dsm that takes people on vents and omly 7 others in the whole state. Right now they say mom is too medically complicated to come to dsm as she needs to see a doctor on a regular basis due to pain, infections, her diabetes and othe things. So right now one week at a time. Thank you all for the support and putting up with us. This is pretty stressful and I know I am not always the easiest to deal with. Megan, momand I are just lucky that so many people are helping and care!!!
