very well said ya Irene Kellermann I was so pleased this morning to know that you are planning to hold a press conference regarding the current political developments in Egypt. As soon as it started, I immediately appreciated the panel members whom I was confident they would conduct a successful conference and explain to the audience (local and foreign reporters) what is going on. Just few minutes later, it was quite obvious that there were some problems that prevented the guests from hearing the panel, over and above the serious language problem. All speeches were in Arabic. The panel members spoke quite fast and did not pause for translation at short intervals. Once they paused, the gentleman in charge of translation did not say everything and skipped some parts because sentences were quite long which of course mislead the foreign audience. Except for Dr. Mervat El Talawy who decided to speak in English, but that was objected by some of the audience who asked her to speak in Arabic. Later, a female translator replaced the previous gentleman. She was extremely unprofessional. Again, she skipped words due to long sentences. However, sometimes she just came up with words that were not even mentioned by the speaker, let alone the wrong pronunciation, and she used the word “actually” a lot of times as if she was stating her own personal opinion. Let me remind you of the incident when Dr. El Talawy interrupted this woman to correct a mistake she did (the word “years”). I am one of thousands of simple regular Egyptians who are quite frustrated at what the foreign media thinks and says about what is going on in Egypt. Obviously they are deliberately misguided and getting the wrong messages. I was hoping that an official government authority such as the State Information Service would do something about it to rectify matters. I am sure you had the time to prepare for this conference, but couldn’t you check the competency of your in-house translators? Did you ever hear of “simultaneous translation”??? Couldn’t you hire a professional candidate for this job from trusted sources? Did you know that 5 of the best translators in the world are Egyptians? You had the chance to do something about fixing the misunderstanding and in particular the child abuse issue which was a major point discussed in your conference; but I regret to say that you did a very bad job.
