via Di Rowland Di Rowland 37 mins · Please comment to the FEC, and share this post widely! Thanks! Dear Friends, I wanted to let you know that Ellen L. Weintraub, a member of the Federal Election Commission, stated on Chris Hayes MSNBC show about a week ago that the commission is seeking public comments on McCutchenon v. FEC concerning campaign finance disclosure. She stated that she is out-numbered on the commission, but that public comments may sway the other members to make rule changes that make it mandatory that large donors to 401C-4s, non-profit organizations that engage in campaign activity, disclose the identities of large donors. It is easy to make a comment, just go to: fec.gov/members/weintraub/weintraub.shtml and click on: Submit Comment on Earmarking, Affiliation, Joint Fundraising, Disclosure and Other Issues McCutcheon v. FEC. On the page that reads: I am submitting these comments on behalf of myself, click on NEXT. (Do not try to enter an email address or password on that page because, unless you have an account established, it will not work.) Enter your name, address, and email address on the next page. FYI, my comment read: Please make rule changes that require that the names of all donors to 401C-4 organizations be made public. Large donors are currently able to influence the outcome of elections by making anonymous donations to non-profit organizations that, while they are not supposed to be involved in politics, often do become involved. As FDR once stated, Government by organized money is just as dangerous as government by organized mob. We need to protect our for-and-by-the-people democracy from monied special interests. It only takes about 10 minutes.
