via Logan County Office of Emergency Management LOGAN COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REQUESTING FILLED, BUT UNUSED SAND BAGS FOR EMERGENCY OPERATIONS IN SEDGWICK COUNTY STERLING, COLORADO – The Logan County Office of Emergency Management is requesting any filled, but unused sand bags be returned to the Old Logan County Shops at Division & N. 3rd Avenue in Sterling. Returned bags will be used for emergency services in Sedgwick County. We are asking that sandbags that have been affected by flood waters NOT be returned to this location. For those still in need of sand bags, Logan County is providing empty sand bags as well as sand at the same location. Update on River: River is steadily going down. Updates on Electric: Xcel is monitoring the substation. At this time it is still intact; however the threat remains of power outage due to the flooding in that area. Xcel has made preparations to provide alternate power if the need arises. Updates on the City of Sterling No Flush Order: City crews are working diligently trying to access the sewage pump station. At this time, flood waters are still making access to the pump station impossible. The No Flush Order remains in effect until crews can access the pump station and provide updates. The City water is NOT contaminated. Updates on roads: The river bridges on Hwy 6 in Merino are now open. Crews are still working on Hwy 63 in Atwood and are hopeful the road can open in that location soon. Hwy 138 at Hwy 113 is closed to Crook. You can still access the junction of Hwy 113/Hwy 138 to Sidney, NE. The river bridges on E Hwy 6/Chestnut St are still closed at this time. Updates on evacuations: The residents of Merino and Atwood are able to return to their homes. The residents of Crook are still asked to stay out of the area. Volunteers: A phone number has been established and will be answered 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. beginning 9/18/13 for those wishing to volunteer or in of volunteers in Logan County. – (970) 521-2750. Other updates: Damage assessors will be moving through restricted areas of the county today. These crews will have identification and are critical for evaluating damages incurred by the flooding.
