via Mental Illness Policy.Org: Whats your take on the Resperdal Settlement? Many of you may have heard about the Risperdal settlement. Resperdal is an antipsychotic that helps people with schizophrenia. But the makers were inappropriately marketing for off label usage. DOJ sued them and Resperdal agreed to stop and make a payment for past abuse. My take is that the credit for this decision should go to the antipsychiatry/consumertocracy groups. While I am usually vociferous critic of both groups, I have previously written, it is only them, and not NAMI, MHA and others that have been willing to take on Big Pharma. NAMI and MHA are more interested in their donations than curbing their excesses. Meds are important and critical to our loved ones, but so is ending inappropriate marketing of them.
