via Pets, Inc. Meet Oliver. He was brought to our Adoption Center on Monday, October 27, 2014 after he was found abandoned on Mountain Drive (just off Bush River Road) in Columbia, SC in an area that has reportedly become a dumping ground for unwanted and discarded animals. We are so grateful for the compassionate people who brought him to us. Oliver is about 1 year old, is a hound mix, and in spite of his neglect and condition, is very friendly. Our vets medical assessment includes dehydration, malnutrition, severe dermodectic mange, and a weakened and compromised immune system which has caused his raw skin to fall off his body. We do not yet know the effects of his emotional well being or how broken he is inside, which will either help or hinder his physical healing. This neglect did not occur over night; it has been happening for quite some time for him to end up in this condition. Oliver will need regular medical testing and treatment in order to diagnose and treat ongoing issues. We have had good luck with cases like this in the past, but long-term abuse requires long-term treatment. He is currently residing with a loving foster family who is working closely with our vets and staff to provide the very best care possible. Our vets tell us it will be at least 6 months or more before Oliver is healthy enough to be adopted. Please check back often to follow his road to recovery.
