via State Rep. Jim Cantwell Thank you to everyone who joined us for the very successful Marshfield-Scituate community forum on suicide prevention. We had over 60 people in attendance, including concerned citizens, students, selectmen, and Scituate and Marshfield leaders from mental health, schools, public safety, and faith. I was inspired to see so many folks rally around this issue to learn and heed the call to action. Our willingness to have such an open and engaging discussion is an important step. Soon we will have a second meeting continuing the conversation about building a coalition to promote awareness, services for those in need, and community resiliency. My deep appreciation to those in attendance who are loved ones of people who died by suicide; your insights and drive are of enormous value as we continue this work. Thank you to Annmarie Galvin from ScituateFACTS for helping to catalyze this meeting. Thank you also to our knowledgeable and supportive presenters: Alan Holmlund, Director of the Suicide Prevention Program at Mass DPH; Jim McCauley, Co-Founder, Riverside Trauma Center; and Bekah Hunt from the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. Last night was a message of hope. Suicide is preventable, and there is a lot we can do as a community and individuals to help those in need. Most importantly, there is nothing wrong with asking for help. We are all in this together. For immediate assistance, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 24/7 toll-free number, 1-800-273-TALK (273-8255) can connect you to a nearby certified crisis center. Additional information can also be found on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline website: suicidepreventionlifeline.org./
