via occupy seattle For more than 10 years the geek/hacker posted to the Ars Technica website -- anonymously, like all the other techies, who hung out there. He posted knowledgeably on IT issues, sometimes rudely or even obsessively on others, such as his favorites - gun control (against it), social security (against it), personal liberty (for it). He was an ex-soldier, a Republican, a traveler, a man who hated leaks of classified information to newspapers. And then somehow things seemed to change for him. Then, in 2009, the entries fizzle away. In February 2010, TheTrueHOOHA mentions a thing that troubles him: pervasive government surveillance. Society really seems to have developed an unquestioning obedience towards spooky types… Did we get to where we are today via a slippery slope that was entirely within our control to stop? Or was it a relatively instantaneous sea change that sneaked in undetected because of pervasive government secrecy? TheTrueHOOHAs last post is on 21 May 2012. After that, he disappears, a lost electronic signature amid the vastness of cyberspace. He was, we now know, Edward Snowden. theguardian/world/2014/feb/01/edward-snowden-intelligence-leak-nsa-contractor-extract
