.view from abroad: .. Life in America is based upon free-market principles. You get to vote, to pursue a career or build your own business, enjoy the personal relationships of your choice, hold your own religious or philosophical viewpoints, reasonably demand a certain degree of transparency and action in the public interest from those we elect, and can reasonably bad-mouth those we elect with whom you disagree. You also receive the benefits of a robust currency system, a functionally advanced physical and technological infrastructure, ease of rapid transportation, reliable fire, police, and emergency services, free education to a certain point for your children, wide access to entertainment, culture and information, and an exceptional array of goods, luxuries and services, as well as publicly available support, counseling, and medical care - all either for free or at accessible prices. In exchange, all we ask is that you contribute a less-than-cumbersome amount of wealth to the national coffers to help cover all these expenses. If that deal does not appeal to you, you are free to shop the world market of other socioeconomic systems and select another option. Can you name a better offer in the global marketplace of governments and economies?
