was born July 31, 1967 at 3:07 pm in Misericordia Hospital, Bronx, NY. I was baptized in St Edwards Chapel (within the hospital) on August 7, 1967. My (adoptive) parents brought me home on January 5, 1968. The adoption was finalized in May 1969. The agency that handled the adoption was The Catholic Home Bureau. I do not know where I was for the first 5 months of my life. I have always known I was adopted. The correspondence from TCHB to my parents refers to me as Kimberly. My parents found out some, limited, info about my birth parents: Birth mother: 19 years old, 59, high school graduate. Birth father: 27 year old, 62, college graduate. Also, I am of Irish & German descent. I did not find any of that information out until I was 23 years old. I stumbled across the paperwork. I had always asked my parents questions and they seemed to have no answers. I have tried, in the past, getting information from the agency but was told that the records burned in an Iron Mountain fire in the late 90s. Not sure I believe that anymore. Somewhere around 2001, I had an attorney try to look into petitioning the court (where the adoption was finalized) into releasing my medical records or any non-identifying information. I have a degenerative and possible hereditary corneal disease that required me to have a corneal transplant in one eye. Currently, I am rejecting the transplant and they doctors recommend I have it re-done as well as have the surgery in the other eye. Anyway, we were told it would be a waste of time and money. That the only time that court unsealed a document was for a Native American who wanted to know what tribe he came from. Again, I stopped pursuing it. I have had my name on several online registries for quite a few years with no luck. It appears no one is looking for me as I am for them. The sadness of that reality had always stopped me from looking further. I dont really want to disrupt anyones life. Lately, I feel a VERY strong and inexplicable push to search with full effort. Like so many of you, not only do I want to know who I am and where I come from, but I want my 10 year old son to have access to any medical information he may need. I was recently told that my birth name should be in the birth index at the NY Public Library. i plan on looking into that within the next few weeks. i have, also, sent in my form for the NYS registry. I have put my info on more online registries and pages. So, thats it. Thats my story. I wish us all luck in our searches. It would be wonderful if there would just be a national law passed to unseal all records. Until then, may we all find the information, peace, and closure we are searching for. “In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage- to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness. ” ― Alex Haley
