was just wonderin if the reason it seems that the 64 Civil Rights Act would have no chance of passage today, given the current obstructive House Republican majority, is that those Tea-Party-types who have driven that party off the edge are indeed themselves reactionaries who resent civil rights laws, like Strom Thurmond in his 56 day Congressional filibuster to oppose the Act, and at best who somehow act, artificially and most insincerely, as if slavery itself wouldve ended all by itself and all civil rights liberties promised in our founding documents, if needed at all, would have mysteriously just manifest all on their own without public outrage, activists fighting, and, yes, progressive governance. ie. Laws and enforcement of those laws.
