was on this day in 1919 The Cenotaph, the national monument was erected, it was originally knocked up with a timber frame and plastered to give the troops something to salute at during a peace day parade down Whitehall, Within days it was adorned in flowers and wreaths and messages to the lost loved ones whose numbers nearly topped a million due to the conflict, the amount of people and general attraction to it made the govt build a permanent one in Portland stone, the new one was unveiled on NOV 11th the 2nd anniversary of the 1918 armistice when fighting stopped and guns fell silent, it has the Union Jack representing the Army and the Nation, flanked by the White Ensign of the Royal Navy and the Blue Ensign of the Royal Naval Reserve and on the other side is the Union Jack in between the Red Ensign of the Merchant Navy and the RAF Ensign, to them all we owe so much, they would be spinning if they could see Great Britain as it is now,
