The same industry laid off thousands of miners during the election cycle, just to place false blame on the usual scapegoats like the President and the EPA, pitting the federal regulatory agency designed to protect us from pollution against the dignity of the labor of generations of hard working coal miners. This is an outrageous political stunt that aids in the fossil fuel lobbys dark money attack on us; they seek to divide and conquer the Appalachian people. They succeed in convincing countless people to vote against their own best interest. How long are we going to perpetuate the myth of clean coal? How long will we kiss the ring of the King who never served us well? How long will we live in the past? Fracking and cheap natural gas are the real enemy of the coal business, both sacrifice our human capital and our property values for the promise of a few jobs and economic prosperity that never materializes within our communities; yet we sacrifice our water supply, our health, and the resources that future generations depend upon for the sake of this false promise. How is fracking serving West Virginia as a whole, outside of lining a few pockets and keeping our culture of political corruption alive, considering the current economic shape of the state? How is this fossil fuel industry in transition going to serve the Mountain State moving forward? How can we break the cycle, and move toward energy independence and clean energy technology that will protect and serve our precious Birthplace of Rivers National Monument? How many parts per billion make up an acceptable level of pollution? Mountains are the only natural water filters on earth; we cant sacrifice any more streams, rivers or mountains for the sake of easy profit or the false promise of a few temporary jobs. We need to change with the times, and to control our own destiny. In protecting our precious resources, like our water supply, we protect not only ourselves and our communities, but future generations. Change the current this year, be a clean water voter.
