we didnt cancel Christmas and my kids arent bad .. but a couple years ago I noticed they had so many presents they were just ripping through the presents and not even really looking at what they had.. just worried about moving on to the next one.. the next year we told the kids ( some still little) that we needed to limit our santa list to 3 gifts..and I went to explain that the reason we donate gifts sometimes to those in need is because when you ask for too many gifts by the time santa gets to the other kids house he was all out of toys.. so to make sure everyone gets toys limit your list to 3.. we then noticed that instead of writing down a big list they actually thought about what they really wanted.. first year was a little tough.. but now its the norm and they are fine with it
