we forget. and because we forget, we readily believe lies--lies churned by a most dastardly family--the utterly greedy, utterly shameless, utterly heinous family of plunderers and murderers--the marcoses. the family that stole not just our countrys wealth but our bright future, the light in our childrens eyes, the fire in our hearts to make our best lives possible in the land of our birth, reducing us to a people scattered all over the globe --settling in distant lands because the motherlands soil is infertile, inhospitable to dreams. lies perpetrated by the utterly unteachable loyalists--the willfully obtuse who have committed a most horrible atrocity by wearing the mantle of CHOSEN ignorance. who, as they defend the indefensible and scream themselves hoarse MARCOS MARCOS PA RIN!, seal not just our coffins but even the coffins of their own children, the fools. who, for every labored one step forward we take, pull us 3 steps back. we forget because there are no faces to remember those who fell in the night. i dont need to close my eyes to see their faces--those who knew what it took to put our country on higher ground and said, yes, i will do whats asked of me. who counted the cost and gladly paid the price. i listen to the deep sadness of this revolutionary love song (written by joey ayala) to see their faces and to know that the price to the freedoms we enjoy today was paid for by lives of real people. mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, lovers, friends, husbands, wives, sisters, brothers..someone beloved, precious, embraced, kissed, made love to, sang to, danced with.. you who have willfully chosen to remain ignorant--despite the wealth of information around you--you who insist the butcher and plunderer ferdinand marcos was really a great guy, you dance on the graves of those who paid the ultimate price. it might do you well to listen to this song. and i hope you hear what youve refused to hear all these years: the marcos years were the years when lives and hearts of thousands upon thousands of our kababayan were broken past the point of mending with heartrending, endless goodbyes--and how, often, those goodbyes were permanent. and often, how that loved one was never heard from again. and put a face on that loss. put a face. your son? your mother? your daughter? your bosom friend? the man youve built a life with? the woman whose smile made your heart sing? the friend you walked through life holding hands? and see if you can forget. see if you can forgive. NEVER FORGIVE. NEVER FORGET. #NEVERAGAIN! https://youtube/watch?v=uD7uQMuTS1I from the wall of Ms. Lorraine Marie T. Badoy
