well spring break with the grandkids: Sunday with Isaac, Jay and Daniel riding the riding toys at our place and playing with the trains; Monday and Tuesday with Jay, Isaac, and Marko at Fossil Rim wildlife park and the LBJ Ranch and homestead; our cabin was in the park but very, very small; the animals were very tame, we could pet the dear and the camels, bison and flightless birds came up to the tour bus to eat right out of your hand. It was really fun. The LBJ ranch was very educational. Wednesday back to Temple to reunite Jay and Isaac with their mother and go up to Glen Rose, TX to go to dinosaur park wildlife zoo with my sister Teresa, Joe, Kristen, Hannah, Caleb; Aiden and Marko: This park you drove through in your own car, the animals werent nearly as accessible and the petting zoo not as extensive as well as it was more expensive; the plus side was it had more giraffes and zebras, and over all more animals, to include some Cheetahs, which did not roam free. Caleb and Hannah enjoyed standing on the seats and looking out the moon roof of the car. Later we went to dinosaur valley state park for lunch, and to look at dinosaur tracks and a hike up a near by hill. While at the top of the hill I got a call from our vet where we were boarding our Great Danes: Robin and Silver: It seems Silver turned critical and needed immediate surgery. His intestines twisted. this is very serious and most dogs dont recover. I was told it would be thousands of dollars and even if he survived the surgery may die in the next 2-3 days. My inclination was to have him put to sleep but I called Felix, who was napping in the car at the bottom of the hill (had to get my sister to wake him up) He wanted to approve the surgery. the next hurdle was getting someone to transport the dog to the overnight clinic after the surgery (we were 2 hrs. away). The vet wanted us to transport him to round rock to a specialist but then decided he might not survive that long. finally the heroic vet and vet techs transported the dog to the emergency vets center where there was another Dr. to assist with the surgery.(one problem with the original vet was the fact that she has herniated disks in her back and may not have been able to stand long enough to complete the surgery, so this was a good solution). when we finally left the park, (it took me 45 minutes to hike back to the car) and drove back to Temple 2 hrs. plus later they were just finishing up with him. He has a 6-8 inch incision in his belly, so far he is doing well and Friday evening was able to walk back into the clinic (slowly and Im sure painfully) We may be able to take him home tomorrow, if he does well. he is still not completely out of the woods but there is hope. Well I am thankful for the skills of the two vets, Drs. Boedeker and Gage and the Techs, it seems the two I met were both named Beverly. Havent gotten the final bill but I know it cannot be enough to repay the kindness and dedication of these professionals, although, it probably will cause a small heart attack.
