well that was brutal. We got killed 35-8 by an amazingly good Mt. Si team. The only quasi-redeeming part was where the sheer lunacy of the mercy rule was in plain view: Mt. Si was up 29-0. They couldnt score again or else their coach would be suspended next week in the quarter-finals of the playoffs. Suddenly Eastlake throws a bad pass and the coachs son, also one of the stars, picks off our quarterback and starts running it back for a touchdown. The Mt. Si coach is screaming, go down! go down! because he didnt want his son to score and put Mt. Si over the magic 32-point differential. The boy keeps sprinting for the end zone and then pulls up short just inches before the goal line. Unfortunately, his team mate is running right behind him and collides with him, pushing him across the goal line for a touch down. By now the Mt. Si coach is 15 yards out on the field, laying down, banging on the field with his hand, trying to get his son to stop. Too late. His son turns around, thinking hed just done a great thing by scoring on a pick-six, but sees his dad so upset. His son drops to his knees and starts crying, realizing he did the wrong thing and has caused his team to lose their head coach next week in the quarter-finals. Neither son nor father were consolable. Way to go, mercy rule.
