went through a two-hour walk of Queens this morning...and thought of The Ramones...a band he has loved since 1977. They - Joey, Johnny and DeeDee - were always confident, and supremely pissed off they never made it to Rolling Stones bigness. Their last gasp for that status was Spector-produced End of the Century, which didnt do the trick, and even at the height of their powers he was seeing them in 700-capacity clubs. Anyway, they later concentrated on the Spanish markets, which ate them up - they could play football stadiums in Central and South America, which gave them what they were desiring in U.S. Sooo...walking in Queens today, I saw no less than 5 people wearing Ramones t-shirts..four were busboy types, presumably from Ecuador and Uruguay given our neighborhood..and the fifth presumably a stripper where doing the pogo would certainly be a career asset. Anyway, he would like to say that Joey, Johnny and DeeDee dont need to feel forgotten, RIP, in the neighborhoods here in Queens in which they grew up, the Latinos remember. He felt good for them.
