went to see The Woman in Black II (REALLY creepy and well done!) with my herd of teenage boys. And made the socially unacceptable blunder of sitting next to my 14 year old with girls in his visual field. Making him slump down in his seat so deep and so fast I thought I was being sucked into a black hole while he gestured wildly for me to move a row or two ahead of them. Fine. I know my place in the boys life now. So I got seated between them with Jannis on my left and Seyfi on my right...flanked by Mason and Canberk. Jannis...who disclosed to me that before he came to Canada to live with us never saw a horror movie. And forced himself to suffer through them every other weekend because we all love them. So this is how it rolled: Me: Why didnt you just tell me you dont like scary movies? Jannis: I do now. I didnt before I came here but now I dont mind them. Oh my gawd. Its starting now. (Transforms himself from a relaxed teenager into a sweating, granite statue of stress) Me: Do you want to leave? Jannis: Pfft. Naw. (Makes a point of studying the loose string on his sweater) Me: Are you sure you want to watch this? Jannis: Yes Im sure. Oh my gawd shes staring into space. A scary face is going to appear out of nowhere I just know it and (scary face appears out of nowhere and Jannis goes airborne out of his seat) (Insert scream here) Me: You gonna be ok? Jannis: Haha. That was a stupid scene. Did you see that? You could tell something was going to pop out there. Happens every...oh my gawd. Somethings gonna show up in that window I just know (something spooky shows up in the window) (insert scream here as Jannis goes airborne again) Me: Put your pop down. I dont want a Coke shower. Jannis: Oh my gawd WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THAT!? People Sitting Around Us: SSSSHHHHHH!! Me: Youre a lion Jannis. Jannis: (sheepishly) Haha! King of the Jungle right? Me: Wizard of Oz. Jannis: Oh my gawd why would she go near that door again? (Starts moaning and wiping sweat from his brow). Something will happen here. Its too quiet in that room (Something makes a banging noise in the background) (insert scream here as Jannis goes airborne) Me: Youre funner to watch than the movie. Jannis: Can you actually tell that Im shaking? Me: Jannis, people in Truro can tell that youre shaking (womans face morphs into something creepy and a guy two rows down screams) Jannis: (smiling). That wasnt me! Me: Respect, man. (Insert image of Jannis intermittently leaping out of his seat and clawing at the air while screaming for the next hour and a half) Mason: Whatd you think of the movie Jannis? Jannis: It was AWESOME! Best. Movie Night. Ever.
