what happened to Raila and governor Mvurya was simply wrong but there is bigger issue than the beating. this man was mentally ill and the issue here is about how we as society and especially our leaders take care of our less fortunate and esp. mentally unstable persons. Govt has ignored them for far too long. we have seen many mentally ill people left to roam the roadside, city streets- we laugh at them as they walk naked and eat rotten stuff- we call them wenda or wazimu in bad light. odinga and mvurya are top government and leaders in our nation. was he beating the government for abandoning him? why was he in that meeting alone. he ought to have been in company of someone who takes care of him. thats why however unfortunate this situation is, we must not condemn this old man but condemn mvurya-the governor, uhuru, odinga, kibaki, moi, kalonzo-and all our leaders for failing the mentally unwell in Kenya. he should not injure anyone- but he should also piga kiboko all the national and county leaders- (from president to governors-to MCAs) for they watch as the so called madmen and women are tied and chained to chairs, and beds- day and night for years and years- yet no help has come to them nor to their families. why not build two or three more Treatment Hospitals of mentally ill people and help them rather than leaving families toiling endlessly to take care of them? Thats why my Presidency will address the problem of our mentally ill, the handicapped, the Aged in a holistic manner and they shall never again suffer the shame and ridicule they undergo today and financial pain their families incur.
