when the people took the money given to them by the treaty commissioners, they called that day Tsamba Nayle, for we have no word for treaty, also, the moment when each person took the money, their names were taken down and they were all given a number, it is exactly the same as when a person goes to jail, they are numbered, so in a sense we became prisoners of war, and when the reserves were created, they were designed as concentration camps but in a different form to keep us in control, when the time arrived for the foreigners to put us in the reserves in the beginning of the late 1940s, it is because they knew our land was full of great resources worth in the trillions of dollars, so they told the chiefs to tell the people that they had to move out of their ancient hunting camps and into all the reserves created for them, the indian agent told the chiefs to tell the people that they will be given everything they need, schools, health department, houses and so forth, so the people moved out, family by family, it was a strange exodus which lasted about 10 years, the people emerged from one world into another, then in the early 1970s they built a band office for the government that they created during the time they gave out the money, the chief and band councillors, an institution totally foreign to us, the chief is a form of a municipality mayor because no world leaders would sit with them, they are not international leaders at all, and the band government is the lowest office of indian affairs
