when you check the authenticity of ahadith (plural of hadith) and narrations, that are being put to you/ you heard of/or came across the net. We now live in a time of deceit where some scrupulous people, including some imam and maulanas dont hesitate to spread ahadith which are not only weak but also fabricated. So, its our obligation to verify religious matters before believing, applying and sharing them. In the Holy Quran, Allah says: And follow not, (O man do not say, act or address) that which you have no knowledge. Verily! The hearing, and the sight and the heart for each of those will you be questioned. [Surah Al-Israa, Ayah 36] The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: He who reports from me, then let him not say anything except that which is true. So he who attributes to me that which I didnt say, then let him take his place in the fire. [Related by Ibn Majah (no.35), at-Tahaawee in al-Muskilou-Aathaar (1/172). It was authenticated by Al-Albanee in as-saheehah (no. 1753)]
