where did it all go rong? pre 1994, all we wanted was our freedom. nothing else. we had witnessed n experienced terrible atrocities under apartheid. it didnt matter who was gona free us, as long as we were freed, thats all that mattered. we didnt care whether that freedom was gona be brought about by the ANC, PAC, AZAPO, INKATHA, DP( now DA) or COSATU. Our grandfather n fathers n ourselves have lived under very degrading conditions. there was no suffering that one could describe to us that we had not been thru. now all that we needed was a hero to rescue us from that chain. it just so happened that that hero manifested itself as the ANC. we all overwhelmingly looked at the ANC as the only light for us to guide us out of that tunnel. the whole country was looking at the ANC in this way. over 80 of blacks were for the ANC, even some whites and so called coloureds, except Indians, they were for NP n MF. we would have voted ANC even if it didnt promise us anything except freedom. but it promised us houses, Jobs, u name it, etc. if only it knew, if ANC had not promised us anything we would not have expected anything except freedom, we would have voted for it no matter what. even if there was not COSATU or SACP as its allied we still would have voted it, and if it had chosen to campaign on its own, it still would have won our support. bcoz we knew and adored nothing else but the ANC. anything it does after that would have been regarded as a privilege n not be taken for granted. There would have been no marches today for houses n for service deliveries. personally, I was expecting the ANC to utilise catch phrases like, we are a nation at work. after 1994 all of us would have to pick up our tools n kick off the dust of apartheid and strive to build our country. but the instead, the ANC instilled the sense of dependence in people. n thousands of jobs were destroyed. we saw massive exodus of companies( well we wouldnt have cared much abt the exodus of companies as long as we were a nation at work. and now, what a perilous price we going to pay. it shouldnt have promised us anything except freedom. we would not have expected anything.
