while not funny when this actually happened some years ago, I hope you can laugh with me now. A Tragedy at Church I strode down the church Aisle, The most calm in a while, I was speaking a big howdy do, I was feeling quite chip, When I heard a big rip. As I sat down beside sweet Sue. As I sat down on the pew Awaiting a sermon to do, My day had one of those glitches. I whispered to Sue, What on earth will I do? I just ripped out the seat of my britches? My mind can’t erase, That look on Sue’s face, When I told her what I had done, Never before had I seen. Her concentration so keen Knowing we were under the gun. Sue whispered back to me When you stand again I’ll see, If your coat can cover your seat, My prayer strongly was, Lord I pray that it does, So alarmed that others might see. At the song we arose, While inwardly I froze. Being filled with shock and dismay, It would look somewhat awkward, To enter the pulpit walking backward, To bring the sermon today. At Sue’s consternation, And her subtle examination She took a quick snitching glance, Saying with slightly less frown, If you keep your coat down, It will cover the seat of your pants. Needless to say, That the sermon that day, Was not all that I hand on my mind I could not concentrate Trying to stand there real straight, With cool air coming up from behind.
