who are the real traitors in Sabah and Malaysia? Call to act on secession talk Published on: Tuesday, August 19, 2014 Email to a friend Printer Friendly Kota Kinabalu: The authorities were urged to take strong action against individuals who posted statements that propagate the secession of Sabah from Malaysia in the Internet. The problem must be curbed immediately. I hope the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and police will take serious action against them, said State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said Keruak. He said the matter must be stopped for fear that it might influence especially the younger generation who do not understand the history of the nation and inevitably lead them to become rebellious. I have noticed that these individuals through Facebook, Twitter or Instagram would propagate slogans that are capable of disuniting the people in Sabah, for example, the self-determination concept that leads to the independence of Sabah, he said. According to him, those irresponsible individuals also question the formation of Malaysia by stating that Malaysia did not exist due to the withdrawal of Singapore as one of the four partners from the federation without proper consultation in 1965. This issue is very dangerous and would affect the stability of our nations political system, he said, adding that claiming the rights of Sabah and wanting to emancipate Sabah from Malaysia are both completely different. It is all right if we were to have different opinions and want Sabah to be given priorities or claiming the rights of the State because it is part of the political range. We should never go beyond by having the concept of self-determination and wanting Independence in Sabah, he said. I consider this group of people traitors towards our nation, he said. Some, he said, even claim there is no need to fly the Jalur Gemilang except the States flags. This proves that they are being treacherous towards our nation because we are all part of Malaysia, he said, explaining that it has been agreed that August 31 is the date of Independence whereas September 16 is the date of the formation of Malaysia. Meanwhile, Salleh also said that the Umno division meetings had gone smoothly, thus showing the maturity of its members. I believe that Umno will remain strong because of the maturity displayed by the members and that it will also strengthen the governments mission and policies for the people in Sabah, he said. He said that there were some motions passed during the divisional meetings that are aimed at benefiting Sabahans and also Malaysians in general. He said Kota Belud Umno has passed a motion where unity is the basis of harmony, which is important in the celebration of the Independence Day. Salleh said this during the Hari Raya open house at Wisma Dang Bandang with a total of 15 stalls serving a variety of food. There were also singing performances as well as Stalls Competition consisting of three categories, which were Most Creative Stall, Most Visited Stall and Most Cheerful Stall with prizes sponsored by Salleh. The event also saw the contribution and handing of the Gaza Fund to a representative from Aman Palestin.
