wkrn/story/25890091/i-40-crash-in-hickman-county This is so tragic! I met Will Shelburne about 5 years ago. His dad stopped by our old house on Highway 70 looking for landscape work. I was in the guitar shop working. I had never met him. I told him I was looking for a young man to help clean my shop and barter out a handcrafted guitar. He said he had a son and would ask if he was interested. Will called a day or two later and came over the next weekend and went two work. Through the next few months I got to know the entire family; Laura, his mother, Claire, his sister, Able, his brother and Terry, the dad. Will faithfully carried out and accomplished every task I assigned him, wanting to know my instructions to the smallest detail to be sure that I was pleased with the results. Will and his siblings were home schooled. They were all so smart. They were a little introverted, but I lovingly picked at them and brought them out a little. They enjoyed my dry homespun humor! I recall taking Will, Claire and Able to Buddys restaurant for lunch one Saturday afternoon. We laughed because I had prepped and coached Able on eating the large Buddys burger all morning. He assured me that he would eat it all. When it arrived his eyes became as big as a silver dollar. After coaching him for a while, he managed to get it down. We laughed and cried. I asked if he wanted one to go for afternoon snack and he declined. I told them that I hadnt had as much fun since Granny stuck her finger in a light socket! That cinched our relationship. We were all friends forever after that day! I dont want to ramble, but Will was such a blessing in my life. He was genuine, pure, humble and trustworthy. He wanted to do everything the best that he could. He had spent the last six months helping me build our new house. With Will having such a fantastic attitude, I took time to help him learn the tricks of the trade. He appreciated it so much. When I said goodbye to Will on Thursday evening, I had no idea that that would be the last time. He was taking Friday to go to a wedding in West Tennessee with his family. With the time of the crash being 1:30 pm and at mile marker 162 and they were headed west bound, they were only 10 miles down the interstate from their home exit and had been on the road for 20 minutes. Hollye and I were called by a mutual friend this morning with the tragic news. They were in the same home school group with Will and his family. From a report I read, Will was driving. Tragic, sad and devastating...... Will, we will miss you and your family. Thanks for being such a big part of my life for the past 5 years. Thanks for your quiet humble demeanor and spirit and your attitude of gratitude and love that continuously reminded me of how I should be. We Love you Will! I Thank God for you! Friends, please pray for total healing for Terry and Abel Shelburne, the family survivors of this tragic accident!! They are both at Vanderbilt in critical condition!
