My father always used to say its not how well you start a race that matters, but how you finish it which determines champions. I always like to have a productive day and to have that, you need to focus and plan things that are important and not do the extraneous stuff. I also believe in some `me time, as it helps me channelise my thoughts and energies. KEY TO FITNESS I am an early riser and like to go for walks with my wife at the Lodhi Gar dens in New Delhi. Meditation, yoga and a balanced diet is something I religiously practice. I like to take yearly vacations with my family to var ious locations. ENERGY HIGH The foundation of our busi ness is peoples trust in us, and it is this trust that gives me the energy to work with more vigour. RISK-TAKER OR A MICRO-PLANNER? It will be incorrect to be stereotyped into a particu lar category. A person moulds himself according to the need of the hoursituation. I took the huge risk of leaving my family business and starting off with a paper mill one. In 1979, I took another risk by opening the first finance branch in Faridabad and helped it grow across the the country, which required a lot of micro-planning. SPIRITUAL DIET My personal connect with nature and God is my spiritual diet. It gives me my daily dose of motivation. Morning is the time where I spend an hour with myself. I am also an avid reader and enjoy reading biographies and inspirational life stories. HANDLING FAILURESUCCESS Failure is a step towards ultimate success. Its a lesson, a challenge and a chance. When you fail, you learn to revise, reframe and refocus your strategy. Success is nothing but a result of your learnings from your failures. Behind each successful man, there are a series of failures, which were once his stepping stones to success. CRISIS MANAGEMENT It requires decisions to be made within a short time frame, and often after an event has already taken place. In order to reduce uncertainty in the event of a crisis, I anticipate, identify and prepare contingency for everything and thereby, rarely get caught off-guard. Even if I face any unforeseen developments, I remain calm, focused and embrace them as opportunities to learn something new. I assess the situation, do a post-crisis analysis and look for solutions. SECRETS TO SUCCESS · Never give up on your ethics and values · Be reliable and dependable · Try and make a difference in peoples lives by giving back to society ·
