wow--lo and behold! the conscience of the grand defender of Israel no matter what is a bit tickled the wrong way by what he has seen in Gaza--aint that terrible? In this piece we are privy to discover that Leon Wieseltier is not quite pleased with the discrepancy between what Israel has to do to defend itself and the murdered piled up bodies if Palestinians--he does join his bodies in Hasbara to blame this all on Hamas, but nevertheless he remains a bit iffy about the whole thing: According to a poll by the Israel Democracy Institute, he reports, 95 percent of Jewish Israelis believe the war in Gaza is just. It is easy to see why: Self-defense is also a moral duty. But only 4 percent believe that the Israeli military has used excessive force. This makes me queasy. Queasy? Wow! Just a little bit apprehensive--what an amazing height of moral clarity to be just a bit queasy at the slaughter of nearly 2000 human beings, accept the IDF account that nearly half of them were Hamas and look at the rest with the benevolence of a conqueror and feel a bit uneasy about the whole thing--just like Golda Meir said--she could forgive Palestinians for killing Israeli kids but she could not forgive them to make her murder Palestinian kids--Yessir, the nauseating morality of the murderous conquerors--moralizing from the cockpit of the Israeli F-16 looking down at the Palestinian corpses! Thousands of Palestinians were slaughtered, more maimed, half a million made homeless, their entire home and habitat destroyed . . . for Leon Wieseltier to have a bit of moral constipation!
