wsj/articles/our-man-in-damascus-1422232552?tesla=y This is not benign article from the Wall Street Journal right after the foreign affairs interview with President Assad, and few hours before Moscow talks start. They didnt put the writers name. Here is my comment to WSJ: ============= Matar Matar | 26 Jan 2015 Why Iran must be the US enemy forever and the Saudis the US friends forever? When we think about Iran, we must ask this question: Why all US presidents failed so far in reaching to agreement with the Iranians? Simply because they didnt change in their policy, so either the policy is wrong or the way how to approach the Iranians is wrong? I think both are wrong, and this is what Obama wants to proof; he wants to say “ I am different, I will solve what every US president before me couldnt “ This is what he did with Cuba, and this is what he is willing to end up his term with Iran, watch out. Now when we talk about President Assad, can you please tell us again, who hurt US national security more; Saudis and their Jihadism teachings or Assad and his secular Baathist regime?? All what you need to ask; WHY? Why should we keep our minds blinded and following our stubbornness? Are you seriously waiting for the so-called moderate Syrian rebels to be your boots on the ground against one of the most trained, equipped, and funded terrorist organizations (ISIS and JN)?? Please remember : 1) 15 out of the 19 terrorist hijackers who carried out 9/11 attack in 2001 were Saudis. 2) According to Sinjar records that the US army captured in Sep 2007 in Iraq, 305 out of 700 foreign fighters who joined Jihad against US forces in Iraq were Saudis. 3) Most of the Islamic charities in Gulf states work under protection of emirs, that make inspection for wire-transfer and cash flow very hard, and huge percentage of its funds goes to terrorist organizations. 4) The hatred teachings against Shiite started in 2003 from Saudi Arabia after US invasion to Iraq, when Saudis hosted and funded many radical TV channels to spread the Wahhabi Sunni Islam creating fertile atmosphere for radicalizing young minds and poor uneducated people. Of course this hatred was not only against Shiite, but also against all non-believers. 5) In Saudi Arabia, it is not allowed to build a church or carry a bible. In Iran, practicing Christianity is well respected, and there are 600 churches, most of them are very old go to the early Christianity ages. Dont forget the other human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia. =============== Here is quoting from the WSJ opinion: The longer-term worry is that propping up Assad will assist Iran’s strategy to become the dominant regional power to the detriment of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states and Israel. Those U.S. allies fear that this is precisely what Mr. Obama is moving toward—an entente with Iran that starts with a nuclear accord that leaves Tehran on the cusp of having the bomb whenever it chooses. Then the U.S. winks at Assad’s survival in Syria. In return, Iran doesnt interfere with the U.S.-Baghdad-Kurdish offensive this year to reclaim Iraqi territory from ISIS. Islamic State might be diminished, but the price would be an arc of Iranian influence from the Persian Gulf through Iraq, Syria and Lebanon to the Mediterranean. How this helps America’s long-term interests is hard to see. The U.S. would have degraded one radical jihadist threat, ISIS, in return for empowering another one, Shiite radicals backed by the bomb. Congress should ask the Administration to clarify if Assad really is Mr. Obama’s man in Damascus.
