x Match Report x Away game on Sunday to the far off land which is Oban in the Regional cup and after a wee 3 hour journey,a slight delay waiting for the ref turning up and we eventually got started at around 1.30pm. As has often been the case this season we got off to the worst possible start with a mix up between the goalkeeper and Ross and the ball ended in in the back off the net for an own goal. Right away though we made amends with Craig Raybould beating 2 defenders then hitting a cracking shot which beat the keeper at his left side post and it was game back on. The game was mostly played through the middle and was pretty even, though the opposition number 9 was giving the defence problems with his strength and pace and it was through him we lost the second goal with the defence not closing him down quick enough. The second half started with us 2-1 down and again we pulled it back quickly after the break with Connor Bohan picking up the ball in midfield beating his man and letting fly a well placed shot to beat the keeper from out-side the box. At this stage we replaced Gavin with Duffy and Blair for Andrew while we tried to get back into the game. Oban to their credit pushed us hard and for the second game running our goalkeeper Ross Paton pulled of some brilliant saves but after a goalmouth scramble Oban again went in front with their striker just getting a foot to the ball to push it over the line. With only 10 mins to go Morgan after a good run into the box was brought down and the ref awarded the penalty. Up stepped Chris MacNiel and powered a shot to the left hand corner to give the keeper no chance to take us to 3-3 where we finished the game and earned us extra time. The first half of extra time we pushed really hard and a great shot from Chris hit the bar and Andrew just missed the chance from the rebound. This was to come back to haunt us though as Oban hit back on the counter and after again not clearing our lines a hopeful ball found an Oban player onside and it resulted in an easy tap in for their fourth and while we gave it our all in the final 10 mins we just ran out of time. We never gave up the whole game and made some great chances we really should have put away and made some really basic errors in defence but that said, these can be resolved in training and the team showed how far we have come in such a short space of time. Well done boys and the coaches were proud of the way you pushed right to the end, now we concentrate on the league and work even harder in training. Man of the match goes to two players, the two dafties who caused the first goal, the two Ronnies, eh sorry the two Rosss who made up for their mistake by keeping the team in the game with their excellent displays for the rest of the game:-)
