y William Andrew Dillard HEBREW HONEYCOMB GOD OF LOVE, GOD OF HATE! Much is rightfully made of God being a God of love. Although this can be skewed in a manner to negate the whole truth, His nature of love will not be overdone. In fact, the Bible declares that “God is love.” Grammatically speaking, that short sentence is called a subjective complement. As such it is reversible in place without damaging the meaning. Example: Jim is the president, or the president is Jim. Either way is correct grammatically and in meaning. Applying that rule of language to the biblical statement “God is love,” it may also be stated that “Love is God.” Of course, the essence of true love is under consideration and not what men may call love. But does the God of love also engage in hate? Let the reader be reminded that neither a positive or a negative may exist alone. It necessitates then that God must also hate something if indeed He does love something. It is not the burden of this short article to inform the reader of what God loves. Most of that is well known. But what does he hate? Solomon wrote in Proverbs 6:16-19, “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” The meaning amplified is: 1. A proud look: self exaltation, better than others. Looking down one’s nose at others. 2. A lying tongue: deception, deceit, fraud wrong, purposeful falsehood. 3. Hands that shed innocent blood: to pour out, or caused to be poured out, innocent blood. 4. An heart that deviseth wicked imagines: to cut in, or engrave as to plot, also to be silent inappropriately. 5. Feet that be swift in running to mischief: that which is bad, evil, malignant 6. A false witness that speaketh lies: a deceptive person who establishes a presumed fact through falsehood, lies, deception. 7. He that soweth discord among brethren: purposefully instigating discord and strife. Thus does God hate these evil things of life that men commit in the flesh. “But what about lost sinners” one may say. No, God does not hate men. He hates the actions of men in sin. But, He died for all lost sinners showing His unspeakable love for the preciousness of every living member of the human race. Because of that it is therefore absolutely true, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13. Moreover for those who follow Him in discipleship there is great reward to realize at His coming. “Behold, what manner of love He has bestowed upon us that we should be called the children of God.” Amen and Amen!!
