yeah, its called Soccer Dear England/English Fans, (and Americans who feel brow-beaten by your sometimes snobby cousins across the pond) First off, its time to stop acting like the word soccer makes us less of a fan than you and less knowledgeable about the game..after-all, soccer was your word (look it up, it was the short form for Association Football, at that time there were LOTS of sports called Football, example: Rugby Football which was shortened to Rugger). It was called soccer(1863) a full 18 years before it was called football(1881)...we were a little preoccupied with a Civil War and then rebuilding at the time so we just went with the first name you picked instead of playing the spin the wheel name game. (you are sorta like a new parent who writes baby boy on the birth certificate so that you could pick something later, and then you get mad when none of your friends remember your kids name, its weird). You changed your minds and renamed the sport..then you make fun of us for using your own original name...really, its odd/weird, but there are lots of things about the English that are a little different (*lets be honest...VERY few people would actually pick Fish over..well ANY other meat). Englands best two gifts to the world were arguably Soccer and America, by virtue of losing a war, which you only lost because you used old methods of engagement...a current running theme with your SOCCER team as well (oh snap). After careful analysis...Maybe you should consider going back to calling it Soccer...after-all we seem to be getting better at it than you. TOP 14 Reasons why England should follow OUR lead: 1) We have qualified for more consecutive World Cups than you have [7 in a row for us, 5 in a row for you] (FACT) 2) We have played you 2 times in the World Cup...you have never beaten us...even back in the 1950s when we sent a college team, we still won. (FACT) 3) We were drawn into the same group as you in 2010, we won the group (FACT) 4) We are improving, you are getting worse. (opinion-fact?) 5) 95.6% of your roster plays in your domestic league...and you were eliminated in the group stages...so your domestic league isnt developing your players very well. Our domestic league just keeps getting better. The world is passing/has passed you by. (FACT) 6) Soccer is arguable only our 3rd most popular sport..yet internationally we still stack our #3 against your #1 and come out on top. (FACT) 7) Our last two world cups combined, we have scored 10 goals and you have only scored 5. (FACT) 8) Dont even get me started on how much better our womens team is than yours! (FACT) 9) Our boys are exciting, your boys are predictable and boring.(opinion-fact?) 10) Since 1994 our top 3 World Cup goal scorers: Donovan(4), Dempsey(4), McBride(3) have scored more goals than your top three: Owen(4), Beckham(3), Gerrard(3)...those are some big names on your list, maybe the stage was too big for them? (FACT) 11) 3 out of 4 CONCACAF teams outplayed you in this years world cup. (FACT) 11) Your starters watch the elimination rounds from the couch, our subs watch from the bench. (FACT) 13) You dont learn from your mistakes...we beat you in 1776, 1950 & 2010(top of group)...but you still fight/engage/play the same old boring way. (FACT) 14) Your best known player doesnt even want to own a team in Your domestic league, he is instead buying one in Our domestic league. His career path, trophies, popularity show that he has an eye for making savvy decisions and picking winners. (FACT) Its time for England to make to changes in order to better stack up against the real soccer powers: (a) start calling it SOCCER again (b) ask Wales and Ireland really nicely if they will loan you some new players. :) (c) see if any of your old colonies will loan you some players, we will be keeping all of ours (as well as the Germans we converted) ;). So...Soccer it is, and I wont apologize for it, JoBen *a little friendly banter with mad respect to all my English friends, thank you for giving us the gift of SOCCER ;) #SoccerShotsMiami #SoccerShotsOC
