yes it is all about the Rhythm. yesterday A dear friend, and Master Drummer posted a beautiful photo of a Dejembe, and it sparked a remark from some guy in Amsterdam about when the Dejembe came to America. now as we all know the Dejembe is the pro-tools of drums everybody and their grand mother got 1. now this guy swore up and down that it was in the 80s when the Dejembe came here, what he did not know was the person that posted the photo is not just a American born Master Drummer, and college professor, but he also studied under the men that brought the Dejembe here. my point is this we know the history of African Drumming & Dance in This country. now here is my word to all, if you are studying drumming with anyone and that person is not , and can not give you some of the history of what he is teaching you will be giving your money away. we that are here are very serious about ourstory in this land, and you must remember that it is still a unenforced law against African Drumming in some southern states. there is a reason for that and it is called = FEAR. to you that are in Atlanta, there are some great teachers and players in this town. if you are 1 of these that go buy a drum this morning and think you can get on stage tonight and play with real drummers, and real musicians in a band, please stop you are only embarssing your self, and bring confession when you do so. me I dont allow that and I really dont sit and drum with strangers that are trying to get attention. it is all about the Rhythm , you must Study.
