you ever wonder what you have found or how old it is? Lets start with how I try to identify relics and my thoughts and how I process the information. Now there will be a lot of photos.. In the first two photos youll notice there are slight differences in the two Syrup tins.Widths and heights are different.spouts are different and one has a wire handle. First off I have an idea on about how old they are because of my initial research data on the site. Secondly I know its a Log Cabin Tin so that helps. And finally back to the internet to find the info I need to help date these in order to date the site(s) In the next three photos since I had a hard time actually dating the cans because I had no graphics to go by but rather just the design and construction to work by. I had to revert to identifying as close as possible by utilizing advertisements from magazines and the earliest one Ive found is the 1908 ad and also the 1910 ad both show the wire handle. The next four photos show a different style wire handle the location is far forward towards the spout and its more of a rounded one rather than the earlier variant which is longer. Or perhaps its a different brand Syrup? and the last of this group has the wire handle on the back panel rather than on the top of the tin. The following four advertisement photos are from 1914,1915,1919 and 1920 respectively. In which case you can see the subtle differences in can style and spouts and the missing wire handles. Finally the last two photos just show the spout style of what I believe are the older original style. So you see I have some of the info that aided in a rough date range and of course the difference bring to mind more questions. Hopefully this long boring post will help you in some way.
