you guys catch this at the NEB site??? THE REMEMBRANCE OF THE CIVIL WAR SESQUICENTENNIAL IS HAPPENING IN MASSACHUSETTS AND WE WILL TAKE THE LEAD!!! March 12, 2014 Hello to all Reenactores and Living Historians: On September 17, 1877, there was a huge Ceremony on The Boston Common at the Martin Milmore Soldier’s & Sailors Monument. This Monument depicts on its four facings, of Milmore’s Honoring of his version of The Civil War. He will show The Departure For The War, The Navy, The Sanitary Commission, and The Return of The Flags. In attendance this day, there were 35, 000 people. Noted Civil War Brigadier General, Massachusetts Attorney General, Justice on The Massachusetts Court, and Associate Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice, Charles Devens Jr., gave a speech. This Monument has suffered a great deal of damage and desecration over recent years. The City of Boston is currently completing the Conservation of this Monument which should be completed by end of Spring or early Summer. As a member of The Massachusetts 150 Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, I am reaching out to every Reenacting Unit and Living Historian to join us for a Rededication Ceremony next Fall on The Common by this National Treasure. Obviously, at this point, time is of the essence in order to assemble this Event properly. A check of some possible dates still available due to the inability of many Reenactors or other groups next Fall would be either Saturday, September 27, 2014 or Saturday, October 4, 2014. Your 1st choice and 2nd choice will be very helpful as well. Obviously, it will be an even better Event with modern Arm Forces and Women’s Organizations and Political Dignitaries that we can also Honor. So again, this will begin and end with how quickly The Reenacting and Living Historian Community can commit to Volunteering their participation. If this Commission could receive a return of the ability of enough participation by your organizations to me for my report by our next meeting on April 8, 2014, then we could begin the Logistics of making all of the necessary arrangements. We realize this necessary speed presents some difficulties, but we would appreciate it. If we have this by that date, then we will be able to contact The City of Boston and The Parks department to ensure our ability to secure the necessary section of The Boston Common for this Ceremony. After that, we will be able to work on the details and Logistics with each of you to secure your needs and meet your difficulties, along with Parking and Security etc. Thank you again for your quick response, David L.
