I dont celebrate this day or try to emulate her, or say I am like her, because she was herself, I do identify with her, in so many ways, but from the point of an observer. The first time I heard her sing, something opened up inside me and wanted to sing back to that lonely heartfelt voice that grabs you by the heart and holds on not wanting to let go. I called back to her and listened to her story. It reminded me so much of myself. Not fitting in, and desperately always wanting to fit in, in a world that just doesnt seem ready for you. Today I listen to this song in homage to her passing. To know even with all the star light and all the glamor she was still, just like me, a little girl blue. I am blessed to have heard her sing. I never knew her, but if I could have I would have hugged her tight and told her it is all right, it is not about fitting in, it is just about getting by. To you Janis, wherever you may be.
