Today I had a lesson w/ my trainer, Rachel, first time that Mel has had to really work her hiney since she had Kaleesi!! She was huffing by the end. Mel is naturally pacey, it has taken several years of training to get her to do a nice relaxed gait. Now we are working on her canter. Granted, she can canter & gallop at liberty, but add a rider shifting & moving on her back & Mel tends to lock up in the pace. I can cue for a canter while going up a hill & that is fine because her weight is shifted back naturally so she can free up her front end. But on the flat is a totally different story! One way we help break up the pace & lighten Mel up is with ground poles. Managed to capture a good canter departure on video. Now to see if I can get the video to post...let me know if u can watch it!
