Tuesday, January 27, 2015 big party in the village of Castle in the town of Carro (La Spezia), Italy. Monsignor Lavagnino is known and appreciated throughout the region, but also nationally for having participated in the production of TV commercials for the target of eight per thousand to the Catholic Church. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of priesthood, he was awarded directly by the Holy Father appointed Pontifical Prelate of Honor of His Holiness. So the role of Don Lavagnino has found, in its simplicity of Pastor country as he likes to be called, to be called Monsignor. More years pass and accumulate more memories in the mind of this formidable priest who helped and saved many lives, risking his own on several occasions. Recalls still very well when in 1947 entrusting the parish of Castle in the town of Carro said to him: Go quiet because it is the home of the Saint who will protect you. So it was that the young Don Lavagnino, once arrived at the Castle, planned to realize the road to reach the Cerreta where there was the birthplace and the shrine dedicated to the saint. In those years in the small hamlet lived forty people forced to reach the capital through the only path. Still that child trampled by Antonio Gianelli when he went to study at the rectory. Don Luigi had to fight against barriers too severe, but did not stop at nothing. Only devotion to the Santo managed to give him strength and confidence and so the road began in 1959 was completed in 1963. Monsignor Lavagnino è conosciuto ed apprezzato in tutta la Regione, ma anche in ambito nazionale per aver partecipato alla realizzazione degli spot televisivi per la destinazione dell’otto per mille alla Chiesa Cattolica. In occasione del 70° anniversario di sacerdozio, gli fu conferita direttamente dal Santo Padre la nomina Pontificia “Prelato di Onore di Sua Santità”. Così dai panni di Don Lavagnino si è trovato, nella sua semplicità di “Parroco di campagna” come ama definirsi, ad essere chiamato Monsignore. Più gli anni passano e più si accumulano ricordi nella mente di questo formidabile sacerdote che ha salvato ed aiutato tante vite umane, rischiando la propria in più occasioni. Rammenta ancora molto bene quando nel 1947 affidandogli la parrocchia di Castello nel territorio comunale di Carro gli dissero: “Vai tranquillo perché è la patria del Santo che ti proteggerà.” Fu così che il giovane Don Lavagnino, una volta giunto a Castello, programmò di realizzare la strada per raggiungere la Cerreta dove c’era la casa natale e il Santuario dedicato al Santo. In quegli anni nella piccola frazione vivevano quaranta persone costrette a raggiungere il capoluogo attraverso l’unico sentiero. Ancora quello calpestato dal bambino Antonio Gianelli quando si recava presso la canonica per studiare. Don Luigi dovette combattere contro barriere anche di grave entità, ma non si arrestò davanti a nessun ostacolo. Soltanto la devozione verso il Santo riuscì a ridargli forza e fiducia e così la strada iniziata nel 1959 fu terminata nel 1963.
